The Indian university students’ union has demanded a formal inquiry into the case of a Yale student who reportedly lost his temper and attacked a female professor after she criticised his controversial remarks on the issue of rape.
According to the student union, the incident took place at the Yale Law School in the US state of New York in August.
The incident is believed to have taken place in the student housing complex, but has not been confirmed by the Yale administration, a university spokesperson said.
The unnamed student has been reported to police by the student association and a spokesperson for the Yale School of Law said he had been released on bail.
The student is said to have been on leave since the incident and has not responded to calls for comment.
The union has written to the administration asking for an inquiry into why he was not detained, the student newspaper The Yale Daily News reported.
“We demand that the Yale Administration immediately release the Yale student immediately,” the union said in the letter to the Yale College Dean.
Yale is in the midst of a review of its sexual misconduct policies and procedures following a series of sexual misconduct cases at the law school.
Yosemite has been rocked by several scandals in recent months including the sexual assault of a female student, the expulsion of several fraternity members and a sexual assault case involving a male student.
